Psychotherapy

Currently Fully Subscribed
Mode(s) - Face-to-Face (Richmond) or Online sessions
Fees - £60.00 per session
*Limited concessionary rates are available*

Psychotherapy is an open-ended type of therapy that offers a more sustained, trustworthy and reflective space to provide a greater depth of support. The longer-term scope allows for entrenched patterns, concerns or ambitions to be identified and provide you with the necessary space and consistency to work through, resolve or facilitate healing. The longer term therapeutic relationship allows for you to become acquainted with yourself more deeply and access your own creativity, autonomy and potential. In most cases a once weekly session, with dedicated focus on your holistic needs, can be a fulfilling investment in yourself, but naturally requires a consideration of the practicalities for you.
Psychotherapy can assist with the following [but it is not limited to]:

Anxiety and Depression
Destructive or self-limiting Behavioural Patterns
Recurring Relationship issues
Identity Concerns
Existential Issues (i.e. Meaning and Purpose)
Inertia (Feeling Stuck)

"Since men are born into male bodies, but not the successful accomplishment of culturally appropriate versions of masculinity, becoming a man is a complex process of learning and doing within shifting sets of social constraints" (Holland et al, [1993])

The complex male task to be at home in their own body, whilst developing a relationship to themselves and others, remains all the more challenging in this present age. Society's shifting expectations of men, coupled with male shame and the isolation many feel, leave many men feeling adrift. The many self-destructive patterns of men, result from the inhibited or destructive male-to-male relationships, chiefly the father-son relationship. This lack of constructive connection with maleness injures a man's identity and hinders his social interests. This wounding can often be the core reason for a number of male issues throughout all stages of life. The Men's therapeutic group is an opportunity to: supplement what lacks we have; heal from our wounds and explore new ways to arrive in this male body with the support and challenge from others on the same journey.

Black Men's Therapeutic Groups

Maleness has too often been defined by what it is not, should not be or cannot be, restricting the breadth and range of innate potential and growth within men. When coupled with blackness, another limiting factor defined by what it is not (white), the black man can easily feel trapped with his own despair. Subjected to the overwhelming influences - of collective and personal history, suffocating templates of black masculine identity, exile and silenced grief - the black man can feel estranged from himself and others.
Alongside everyday matters, the black male is burdened with handling these other weighty matters everyday, in the belief he must endure this plight alone and in silence. This belief reinforces the despair of confronting the struggles within and without. However the group is here to provide a supportive and provocative place where you have the freedom to share, to create and to explore these pressing issues of black male identity with others who share in this experience.
